- Not everyone can sell a product. It is something that needs to be taught and learned. In other words, it’s not innate, but instead, an acquired skill that takes time and practice.
- It can take years to learn how to properly sell and it’s okay to be patient within the learning process, so don’t worry! Everyone picks up a new skill differently.
What’s the best practice for becoming a better seller?
What is the strategy for making consistent and successful sales?
To be a better salesman requires:
1. Following the correct process of a sale and the natural result will be a sale.
2. Following a strong sales process will make any seller successful after enough practice.
The sales process requires four main steps that should be followed by sequentially.
If you know and understand the process of a sale, it can earn you a lot of income. This process includes three main components are:
Need + Benefit = Value
Need: The need is identifying the driving force of the customer. Think about what customers need right now. Their demands, desires, or problems that need to be solved.
Benefit: How can a product or service benefit its customers? Look at what’s being offered from the company and identify what will benefit its customers the most based on their needs.
It’s important to ensure that the seller is addressing both the need(s) and the benefit(s) correctly to make a deal. Once these two factors are aligned and correct, it will create true value for the customer.
Value: The need + the benefit equals real value. In the sense, that the customer’s problems are being met with the product or service that’s being offered.
Value is the direct link of a product’s/service’s unique benefits to the most important needs and desires of a particular customer.
Needs + relevant benefits = real value
This simple equation can help boost sales because it’s all about solving a problem with a perfectly matched solution that only the seller can provide to the customer. View our full video explanation during our live program training of this topic below.
Let’s think about it. What are the customer’s needs?
Customer’s needs are desires or a force that comes from emotions. There is not always rational reasoning behind needs. There is usually an underlying base for a person’s wants and needs. Every person is unique, so identifying what their needs are and why can help the seller formulate a valuable solution to meet this need. Meeting this need fixes their problem(s) and makes their lives better in some way.
Why do people buy things?
Internal Needs:
Buying creates a sense of gratification that meets emotional desires and helps establish a sense of worth. The key reasons people purchase products or services are for:
- Creating wealth: to make more money
- Acceptance: from friends, family, co-workers, society
- Status: “better than someone else”
- Love: love from others and love for self
- Respect
- Style
- Comfort
- Value: it makes their life better in some way
External Needs:
- To create profit
- To make more sales
- For the quality of the product
- For trust and loyalty for a product or company
Knowing what makes people want to buy and what we can do to satisfy their wants and desires, is the key to becoming a successful seller.
How can a seller generate a new lead?
In other words, what needs to happen to make a successful sale after marketing and advertising the product or service?
First, let’s define lead, a lead is someone who will become a customer, they will generate a sale. Usually after seeing an advertisement or content about the company.
As the advertiser and marketer, it’s the role of the company to educate, motivate, and engage a customer into buying their product or service. Once this is successful, it generates a lead. Simply put, the customer will feel convinced to purchase the product or service.
“Take a lead and make sure it is maintained. Classifying needs and knowing how to strategize a sale based on that is the key.”
Some key areas to help generate leads:
- Keep track of the conversation with the customer. Listen to them to identify their needs.
- Use CRM (customer relationship management) tools to help manage customer relationships and track sales leads.
If selling B2B, find out customers needs by asking questions like:
- How is the business currently?
- What are the results of the sales?
- What customers do they generally deal with?
- Do they have a new target market in mind?
- What target market would they like to penetrate further?
- What are the short and medium-term goals for the business?
- What is and isn’t working with their current marketing strategy?
- Are they focused on direct sales leads or branding?
- Do they have an internal online marketing team?
- What is their budget?
- When do they want to start?
