Job Information:
The Geologist is a full-time position used by various agencies. Positions are located throughout the state. Travel may be required depending on location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct fieldwork (geological mapping and geophysical surveys.) to collect geological data
• Analyze and Interpret Geological Data and assist in determining the feasibility of mining operations
• Develop Exploration Strategies with other mining professionals
• Prepare pit reports and effectively communicate ore control information to mine management and operators. Prepare cross-sections and evaluate prospect data.
• Other technical, design or monitoring duties as directed. Attend meetings, safety support and safety compliance. Prepare and present technical information as needed.
• Special projects that might include drilling projects, hydro-geological assistance and/or rock quality analysis.
• Field duties including checking ore, providing guidance to operators and field supervision. Provide near term mining data related to rock quality/deposit characteristics for effective ore control.
Requirement:
• Bachelor’s degree required, with a major in Geological Engineering, or Geology, a master’s degree is preferred
• 7+ year(s) of Mining or Geological experience required.
• Demonstration of independent work and excellent technical communication
• Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required
• Must have field mapping experience, structural background experience, and geophysical or geochemical training
• Must be able to use and acquire knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and use of the Internet
• Proficiency in computer applications such as CAD, GIS, ENVI, Global Mapper, Rockworks, and Surfer is required
• Be fluent in English (oral and written) and have effective communication skills
• Works under general supervision of Resource Manager and Chief Geologist
